 Better lifestyle, better memory

Many forgetfulness and memory lapses are due to an inadequate lifestyle rather than to genetic or physiological causes. Arrested since childhood, some bad habits can make the mind lazy and atrophy the neurons, preventing the brain to develop its full potential. The abuse of calculators, cell phones, or the internet can become a double-edged sword since it offers the possibility to sharpen the mind, but also to make it lazier.  And since experts insist that the best way to maintain a good memory is to train it every day, it is important to know which habits we should integrate, and which should be discarded from our daily life.

Good Habits

Sleeping enough hours, at night, and in a completely dark room keeps the neurons in shape. On the other hand, according to experts, you memorize better after a nap, which is much more effective than studying at night.

Studying at a well-ordered desk and with the proper orientation, sitting properly, stretching every hour, and enjoying what you are studying are factors that facilitate memorization, and ensure greater fixation of data stored in the mind.

Bad Habits

As bad habits are one that usually goes unnoticed and is the excessive noise either by vehicular traffic or loud music, there is also the abuse of cell phones and electromagnetic pollution produced by household appliances. These can be the worst enemies of memory since they hinder the process of attention and fixation of information.

It is crucial to adopt a good lifestyle by changing some habits for others that are more fun and enriching. However, it is not recommended that you try to change everything at the same time, it is better to try to change one by one and in a progressive way since it has been demonstrated that when one is dedicated to only one subject at a time one can get much more performance out of it.

Now tell me about you. Do you have good or bad habits?

Would you add more good habits to these?

Comentarios

  1. Good habits because just in this situation of the pandemic I have adopted some such as sleeping eight hours or eating healthy. However, I also developed bad habits related to mealtimes at the same time.
